An average squad-level tactical game, D.R.A.G.O.N. Force is Interstel's attempt to apply the same level of complex and realism used in Starfleet games to small-arms tactics . The result is mixed: while ... its type, its realism ultimately results in a tedious gameplay that's a far cry from the quick decision-making and furious action games of this type requires. The bottom line: Play SEAL Team instead.
Decent conversion of Sydney Development's (Evolution) very early World War II flight simulator, released for the C64 in 1984. Despite primitive CGA graphics, The Dambusters is surprisingly complex for ... foreshadow MicroProse's excellent B-17 Flying Fortress years later. Definitely a classic, albeit forgotten, sim that deserves to be mentioned alongside BAO Software's classic Jet and many others.
Dammit! is another rare solitaire game by Robert Roberds and BSX International. Theodor Lauppert gives a good overview and impression of the game at his website: "Like so many solitaire games, [Dammit!] ... actually marketed as "shareware" but since the registered version is identical to the shareware one (except for the absence of "nag screen"), I have labelled it abandonware here.
Review 1: Dark Legions might be published by SSI but it's obvious that they didn't produce this game themselves. The game is so much different than any of their other roleplay and strategy games (Fantasy ... while defending your own. An excellent selection of troops and spells make this game very enjoyable and fun to play. Make sure to download the manual since it is required to pass the copy protection.
Dark Tower is an excellent Java remake of a classic 1981 board game from Milton Bradley of the same name. You should definitely hunt down the original board game if you love innovative toys, because it ... this early classic as well. The computer version is very faithful to the original, and offers competent computer AI so that you can play solo. Recommended to every fan of fantasy strategy games.
Dark Wizard is an excellent and highly underrated fantasy wargame from SEGA. Kyote's review at RPG Critic says it all about why fans of the genre should take a look at this SEGA CD old game: "The ... sheer fun factor, and good length. It is also much more challenging than other strategy/war games on console, and even uses a hex-based system - something you don't usually see in console titles :)
Day of the Pharaoh is a solid action-oriented strategy game set in the exotic land of ancient Egypt. The game is best described as Centurion: Defender of Rome in Egypt, if not as good: it has strategic ... based on a great idea. It just doesn't have enough variety to keep anyone interested for long. Casual gamers will likely find this a unique, atmospheric game. Serious gamers should look elsewhere.

An unfortunate "missed opportunity" for Millennium - a UK company known for good strategy games. This was also the last game they developed before going out of business.
Decision at Gettysburg is an awful wargame that deserves mention only as the first VGA graphics wargame ever made. This operational simulation of the Gettysburg Campaign suffers from the lack of a friendly ... reinforcements to the battlefield quickly becomes boring. In two words: avoid it. If you want a great wargame set in the same period, play SSG's Decisive Battles in Americal Civil War series instead.

Delta Hydra is a decent 4X strategy/action game where you compete against rival space agencies in a race to gain control of the Delta Hydra solar system. The plot: three Terran space agencies (ULSA, SEAM, ... might be your cup of tea. It's fun and challenging enough for newcomers to the genre, although strategy gamers who cut their teeth on the likes of Master of Orion will find little challenge here.

Smith, the creator and programmer for the fabulous game Encyclopedia of War: Ancient Battles, created a trio of World War Two games a few year earlier for the Spectrum computer that were later converted ... must give Desert Rats a try. One of the best games ever made for the Amiga and Atari ST, Deuteros is the superior sequel to Millennium, Ian Bird's 4X masterpiece that was converted to PC by Paragon Software. Dixiak Narco's review ... before the Meths can get their grubby paws on it. And, by the way, whenever they take a planet they ALWAYS remember to replace your efficient set of eight mining rigs with a couple of run-down ones.
This follow-up of sorts to Mad TV (designed by the same designer) is based on the same engine and look, but unfortunately it lacks the charm and wit that make Mad TV an underground classic. This time instead ... who must amass fame and fortune by nefarious means to achieve his heart's desire. Recruit thugs, plan shootouts, and more in this unique game that doesn't live up to Mad TV, but comes close at times.

The movies, televisions, books quickly became major "busts". ... methinks. Too bad the engine used in Merchant Colony was only marginally improved for this utterly boring game. Go play Sid Meier's Colonization for Windows instead if you're a fan of the period.
Dominant Species is a much-overlooked RTS from Red Storm Entertainment that is by no means as heavily underrated as, say, Warzone 2100, but nonetheless deserves a much closer look from strategy fans. CD ... graphics, strategy, and humor. The units are excellent, as is the execution. In short, Red Storm has given us a remarkable product that has value for any fan of the real-time strategy genre."
Dominium is one of the early real-time strategy game that focus on planet conquest and resource management - as they have become so common nowadays. Overall fairly poor and far inferior to similar games ... models are severely flawed. All in all, a worthy attempt by Microids in the (back then) niche genre, but everyone is well advised to stick to Dune 2 and 4X classics for their galactic conquest fix.
Review 1: Rather unusual for the year 1994, the game is refreshing blend of fantasy and strategy, definetely a grandmother of many newer games of its kind. You play role of demi-god defending his kingdom ... Keeper, only packed with many more types of monsters and slightly more pixelated graphics. This game has definitely found it's way into my favorite list, and it is still replayable to this day.
Dopewars is a great clone of John E. Dell's DOS-based Drug Wars game that was popular on numerous BBS's in the mid 1990s. Your goal is to amass as much money as possible by buying and selling drugs in ... in general, you will find Dopewars a fun fanmade game that remains true to the spirit of the original underground classic, while turning it into an excellent multiplayer game. Highly recommended!
Dr. Drago's Madcap Chase is a unique strategy game for up to 8 players that is similar to Monopoly on a grand scale. The object of the game is to reach various destinations first and make as much money ... property you encounter. "Chance cards" and maniacal Dr. Drago are obstacles to your progress, and their effects are often unpredictable. Good mix of strategy and luck makes it a lot of fun.
Dr. Thorp's Mini Blackjack is another solid entry in Villa Crespo's long line of casino games. One of the most accurate blackjack games ever released, DTMBM lets play blackjack with authentic casino rules. ... but more than adequate for the purpose. Whether you are a die-hard gambler or a casual blackjack player who wants to learn more about how the pros play, this game fits the bill. Highly recommended!
Dr. Wong's Jacks+ Video Poker is a fun simulation of video poker: not the parlor poker game, but the popular high-stakes game played in most casinos. Like other casino games from Villa Crespo, DWJVP has ... good game that boasts decent graphics, competent AI players, and many customizable options. Whether you are a casual or serious gambler, DWJVP has a little something for everyone. Highly recommended!
This is a simplistic but fun board game that needs 6 people to play (you'd think they could come up with a decent computer AI by 1988....) as various characters from Bram Stoker's novel. The object, of ... of many abstracts from the original novel is a nice touch. Note: SDJ later released an enhanced Windows 3.1 version in 1993, which is also on this site. Check it out if you like the original.
This is the enhanced Windows 3.1 version of SDJ's underrated Dracula in London board/adventure game hybrid, first released in 1993. As MobyGames points out, "...the ASCII graphics and CGI color have ... battle and dispatches the count for you. One of your characters, Mina, may be targeted by the count, and if you fail to protect her Dracula will transform her into a bloodthirsty vampires."
Dracula: Reign of Terror is an interesting empire management game from Sweden that deserves more attention than it got for the unique setting alone - although flawed design and repetitive gameplay may ... - too bad the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Not recommended, but here's hoping some new developers will pick up the mantle so we can see what being Dracula is really like, without the fangs.
The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey ranks among the most unique and imaginative fantasy novels ever created, so it is not surprising that a strategy game based on its world would be of the ... is a breeze. Overall, Dragonriders of Pern is a challenging game. You can assume different types of behavior when negotiating with Pernesians, so it's never the same game twice. Highly recommended!
Yet another Amiga hit that failed to impress the PC market, Dragon's Breath(a.k.a. Dragon Lord) is a great fantasy strategy game that puts you in control of an army of dragons in your quest to conquer ... to hatch eggs of various dragon types and tailor their characteristics to strengthen your army. The AI is sub-par, but the many unique elements and colorful graphics will keep you hooked for a while.

Droids is a neat little action/strategy game for one to four players that plays like a cross between Pac-Man and the old board game MaxIt. The game goes as follows: there are four droids on Mercury which ... retrieved the most minerals wins the game. Simple to learn, but quite fun to play with friends huddled around the same computer. The single-player game is a bit too banal and repetitive, however.
In this ansi game you have to become a druglord, by getting much of money by buying and selling drugs. You can fly to 8 different places, each place with it's own streetprices for the drugs. To start you ... shoot out takes place, with or without buddies who wants to help. I got very 'addictive' to the game, because you can play it very fast. In the early years I played every day till I won the game.

Review 1: This is the first RTS (Real Time Strategy) game that was released, and continues to be one of the best. The control of the game could be improved perhaps with some shortcuts to do the movements, ... don't believe in the small, speedy Trikes, for instance, but can build Heavy Troopers), eventually each house gets it's own really powerful unit to play with. So there's plenty to see and do in Dune.
The Dune Emulator is a superb PC implementation of Avalon Hill's classic boardgame Dune. In the author's words, "[this] is a labour of love undertaken primarily as a means of learning the Allegro ... boardgame, succeeds in bringing the Dune universe to life. Whether you like the book or board games in general, this is simply a must-have. A classic that's well worth asking friends to play with.

Durak is an excellent PC implementation of Russia's most popular card game of the same name. In this excellent card game for four players, there is no winner - only a loser ("Durak" in Russian ... and there is no way to adjust the difficulty level, but that is a minor nitpick given the strong engine. If you like challenging card games that rely very little on luck, Durak is a must-have.
