Kye

Review 1:

Kye is very small and different puzzle games with some of its gameplay roots taken from the classic arcade game Boulderdash. Mainly because you can move different objects around and you have to collect diamonds in order to complete the level. Sound simple but Key is a bit special you will have to use quite some time to get used to the different functions in the game.

There are different kinds of objects. Some can be moved around in any direction while others (the ones with arrows on it) can only be moved in one direction and is moving automatically as well. Of course there are several things that make the game more difficult like the weird monsters included and how you should only moved certain objects as you will otherwise not be able to complete the level. Unlike Boulderdash and all its clones you don't have to find any exit once you have the required diamonds which makes everything a bit easier and less hectic.

Overall Kye is a well made but simple puzzle game with a good intention (all fees paid for the game will go to the organization "Save the Children") and with a very easy looking interface and simple controls you can't choose completely wrong with Kye if you are looking for a decent arcade puzzle game. A nice idea for a game although it is a bit simple.

Review 2:

A nice little - not too hard puzzle game that requires you to plan your moves in advance. Basically - it's all about greed... well... as always. You got to collect all diamonds to advance to the next level. To do this you can push most objects and pull some other. Now you got to make a plan what diamond to get first and what should be saved for last as often you will find the last one is in a place from which you couldn't get back anymore. Not overly hard and not really that a unique idea. It's nice though and small.

The game is charityware - the money you send in to register it or to buy additional levels goes to Save the Children. Nice idea, nice game.

Review 3:

Kye is a fun and addictive brainteaser designed by Colin Garbutt and marketed as shareware in 1992. Your goal is to find all the diamonds on each level. It is not as easy as it sounds, of course, since there are dozens of obstacles and monsters that make your job much more difficult.

You move the green circle called Kye around the level, trying to push objects around (or pull them, in some cases) to get at the diamonds. Enemies can not be touched, and can only be killed if they run into a Black Box (which eats anything that runs into it, you included). So this means you will often need to move boxes around to trap enemies if there is no Black Box around. Like other good puzzlers, there are numerous objects you will encounter throughout the game, and experiment is key to find their properties. You can return to any level you have completed via the main menu, or design your own levels using the built-in level editor.

Kye is a fun and devious puzzler that will definitely entertain anyone who likes Chip's Challenge, Deadly Rooms of Death, or similar games. It certainly captivated me for hours on end. Highly recommended!

Note: The download here includes levels from the registered version since there is no way to get them anymore, but since the spirit of the game was to sponsor the Save the Children charity, please donate some funds to a charity of your choice if you download this game.
